SEO - Google Sitemaps Explained

Once again I seem to be writing about Google. The reason Google keeps cropping up in these articles is that:

Google is a innovative company always coming up with new ideas to keep one step ahead of the competition.

Search Engines are the most important way that most webses generate new traffic.
Google is the most important of the Search Engines.
One of Googles latest implementations is a method of allowing web-designers and website owners to create specially formatted sitemap documents that inform and direct the Google robots. These sitemaps are a quick and easy way to keep your site constantly indexed and updated within the Google database and to ensure that all of your sites pages are crawled by the Google search engine robot. The program is called 'Google Sitemaps' and this is what Google themselves have to say about it:

Google Sitemaps is an experiment in web crawling. Using Sitemaps to inform and direct our crawlers, we hope to expand our coverage of the web and improve the time to inclusion in our index. By placing a Sitemap-formatted file on your webserver, you enable our crawlers to find out what pages are present and which have recently changed, and to crawl your site accordingly. Google Sitemaps is intended for all web site owners, from those with a single web page to companies with millions of ever-changing pages. If any of the following are true, then you may be especially interested in Google Sitemaps:

• You want Google to crawl more of your web pages.

• You want to be able to tell Google when content on your site changes.

What is a Google Sitemap?

The Sitemap protocol requires the sitemap to be present on your web-server in the form of an XML document. XML is simple code like HTML and it is used to syndicate your content to all interested parties. You may have seen it in use for syndicating weblog entries via RSS to a news-reader. In the case of Google Sitemaps, the XML document is syndicated to Google and their software uses it to ensure that the pages of your website are crawled and indexed.

Before the introduction of Google Sitemaps, website-owners had to rely on the Google robot to find all of a websites links in order to make sure that all the pages were indexed. The introduction of Google Sitemaps now gives website owners some control over this process. In additon, the XML format of the sitemap document also gives you control over several key variables.

If we examine a very simple chunk of code from a basic Google sitemap XML document we can see the variables we now have control over.

This part of code describes one page of a website, so a typical Google Sitemap document would contain similar chunks of code for every page contained within the website. As you can see each web page has 4 variables:

LOCATION - Simply the URL of the web page.

PRIORITY - A number from 0.0 to 1.0 allowing you to set the priority of a particular page within your website. This number is a relative setting and relates only to those pages within your site. It allows you to instruct Google to pay more attention to particular key pages within your website.

LAST MODIFIED - This tells Google when your web pages were last modified so preventing the robot from having to index pages that haven't changed since its last visit.

CHANGE FREQUENCY - This allows you to tell Google how often the content of a page is likely to change. You can set it to never, yearly, monthly, weekly, daily, hourly and always.

Click here for more information on the XML Protocol used by Google Sitemaps.

How do I create a Google Sitemap?

There are a number of ways to create a Google Sitemap document for your website.

The simplest but least controllable way is to use an online XML generator that will spider the pages in your website, and automatically create the XML file for you. With most you then have to upload the file to your web-server and inform Google of its presence. There are plenty of these scripts popping up and many of them are completely free.

The main disadvantage to using these online generators is that they need to be recreated each time you add new pages to your website. This won't be a problem for many website owners who rarely add new pages, but for those who are constantly adding new pages another approach may be better.

If you would like a little more control over the various parameters stored within your Google Sitemap XML document then a script that you configure and then upload to your web-server may be the answer for you. These are written in various scripting languages such as PHP or Perl and give you more control over your Google Sitemap. They do require some knowledge of scripting and installation to get them working which is beyond the scope of this article. Many however can be set up to run at regular intervals and not only spider your complete site and automatically generate your XML Google Sitemaps document but also upload it to the relevant place on your web-server and ping Google to tell them that the sitemap exists.

Finally you could use Googles own Sitemap generator which is a Python script and takes a little more knowledge to install and configure on your web-server. It also requires that Python 2.2 is installed on the server. Select this link for more information on Googles Sitemap Generator.

Note: These automatic Sitemap generators work by following the internal links within your website, any orphaned pages that are not linked to will not be included in your sitemap.

How do I submit my Sitemap to Google?

Whichever method you use to generate your Google Sitemaps document, you then need to submit it to Google. Most of the online generators and scripts will either do this for you or give you an option to do it once your XML document has been uploaded.

First, you should create a Google Sitemaps Account (which requires you to have a Google Account). This account enables Google to provide you with useful status and statistical information. The My Sitemaps page lets you know if there are problems with your Sitemap or with any of the URLs listed in it. Your Google Sitemaps account will also allow you to re-submit your Sitemaps document when you make changes to it.

Once your Sitemaps account is set up simply use the online forms to inform Google of the location of your new Sitemaps document and your site will soon be indexed.

Summary

Google Sitemaps give website owners the opportunity to inform Google about all the pages of their website. It should ensure that no pages are missed and also allows a certain degree of control over the relative importance of individual pages. Simply generating a Google Sitemaps document won't necessarily give you higher rankings within the search engines as you will still be competing with other websites for those top spots. Both on page Search Engine Optimisation and off-page promotion will still be essential. However, sitemaps make sure all your pages are crawled and indexed quickly by Google, and may therefore give you a competitive advantage over those websites that don't have a Google Sitemap.

Boost Your Website's Ranking With SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is key to improving your ranking and increasing your website's traffic. With the improved online visibility provided by a high search engine position, your site can fulfill its full potential and attract those much needed visitors and customers. But how can you achieve this?

Heading the list in Google, Microsoft Bing or Yahoo is by no means a simple task. Competition is fierce and a number of individual factors all need to be considered and optimized to ensure that your site is ahead of the rest. SEO is all about precision targeting and being thorough right across the site.

Defining your Keywords

Keywords play one of the most significant roles in optimizing any site. By ensuring you have the most relevant keywords for the searches you're looking to attract, you can go about implementing them throughout your website.

An ideal keyword or key term is one that is regularly searched for but has a low level of competition. Of course, this isn't always going to be possible. However, with thorough research you have the opportunity to target a real niche and make the job of topping the search engines for top terms that little bit easier.

Implementing SEO Strategy

Your website's copy is one of the most obvious places to implement keywords. Whilst you need to ensure that it's focused on selling your services and providing valuable information for visitors, it's also an opportunity to get noticed by the search engines too.

A balance needs to be struck though when including keywords. They shouldn't account for more than 5% of the total copy; otherwise it'll be overkill and undermine the integrity of the page. Likewise they do need to be included somewhere, otherwise your copy will have no direction. More often than not , you'll include keywords naturally; however just keep an eye on them to ensure they don't slip through the cracks.

Optimizing Headlines

Each page should have one headline (H1 tag) and may also include a number of sub-headings (H2 tags). The H1 headline is where you need to really sell that page. It should provide a keyword rich overview of that particular page - i.e. 'Antique Pine Doors', 'Search Engine Optimization Services'. This will inform search engines exactly what is contained within that section and help them rank it appropriately for the phrase. Sub-headings break up a page nicely and also provide further weighting for key terms.

Implementing Meta

Again, Meta tags are almost entirely reliant on your keywords. By including certain search terms within the HTML of the page, it too helps define what your site is about and instructs the search engines and their spiders exactly where to look.

But there is so much more to SEO and promoting your site. This simple list is a great place to start, but ultimately Link Building, Local Search and even Social Media Marketing can all play a part. But however you wish to promote your site and encourage its growth, at its very core it is the SEO that keeps everything together and provides that solidity that search engines look for.

If you overlook the importance of a good SEO strategy then you could well be missing out on the opportunity to allow your site to fulfill its full potential. Only through continual updates and precise SEO tweaks can you gain the PageRank and subsequent search engine visibility needed to gain swathes of natural traffic. An investment in SEO, ultimately is an investment in the future of your website.

Use of H1 Tags in SEO

H1 tags are one of the most important part of SEO which is the header tag situated in body of a website. It can be termed as the most simple form of header found on a web page. Through h1 tags search engines come to know about the site content details. If its used in proper co-ordination with anchor text and title tag then you can even expect increased density of website traffic from major search engines like Yahoo, MSN and Google.

Although the feature of h1 tags is not new and is present since years, but from last few years its significance has grown due to increased demand by Google. It carries much more importance than keyword meta tag and description meta tag. The best position to place these H1 tags is at the header situated above the content. Experts recommend to exclude the HREF links from the tag. When you keep a link in h1 tag, it gives the impression to the search engines that the linked web page is more important rather than the present page.

Those desiring to keep a descriptive link to their own page can use the link along with proper anchor text including content of that particular web page. The tags produced by h1 are of largest form, and are very important requiring to be used independently having same HTML commands.

They also consists of same attributes having higher level of suitability like the Class, Align and ID attributes. Always keep the header tag at the top of the web page. You should know this that- when Google scans a web page, it goes from top left to the bottom right of the page. Search engines generally view websites from text perspective instead of graphical point of view.

Place the h1 header tag on the top left hand side or middle part of your web page, as here the main content is found. You can even use the h1 header tag as the title for the content present on that particular page.

You can also construct sub-keywords having same heading tags. In order to separate the text in the tags they are made BOLD, thus they get separated from other text on the page.

Usually search engines are in the search of important and authentic text on the web pages. And when h1 tags are used, they are considered signifying anything important thus giving more visibility to the heading tags.

SEO Tip - How to Make Your Page Content More Relevant For Google

Here's how to make your web page content more relevant for Google to boost your SEO.

When you see a free listing for a web page on Google it is made up of three elements as follows,

The Headline
The Description
The URL - Destination web page

If you use your keywords in the headline, description and URL or your webpage this will ensure that the page is highly relevant when this term is searched which is one of the reasons why it will appear high up Google.

The Headline is basically the text used in your Page Title (Title Tag) which is the text in the Blue Bar at the top of every webpage.

The Description is taken from your 'Meta Data' in the back end of the site, or if you do not have a page description built into the back of the site, Google will take the description directly off the page. So, if your keywords are in the page content these will show up on the Google listing along with some of the text in the same line.

You can put your own 'Meta Data' (page description/keywords) in the back end of your site but there is a general feeling amongst SEO experts that Google is not putting so much importance on these aspects anymore because you can try to trick the system by putting relevant keywords and relevant descriptions in the back of the web page that nobody sees, this could lead people to a page that is not relevant to the search term used to get to your page.

The URL. This is the address of a specific page on your website. If you can make your URL keyword relevant this has extra benefits with regards to Google.

Google has an enormous range of handy tools for you to use as a way of helping with your SEO and Traffic generation. All of these tools will help you with your SEO.

Google Webmaster Tools - search Google for Webmaster Tools

Google Webmaster Tools can give you some very technical information and provides you with detailed reports about your web pages' visibility on Google. You can see what Google thinks about your pages, you can find out the Top Search Terms being used by your visitors and you can check the amount of inbound links/outbound links etc. You can also submit your site map to Google via Webmaster Tools which will ensure that Google knows about all of your pages. To get Webmaster Tools to work you need to install a small code into your site.

There are also a few other technical bits which you may find interesting.

Google Website Optimizer - search Google for Website Optimizer

Website Optimizer is a tool that can help you improve the effectiveness of your website or web pages. By allowing you to Split Test different versions of your website content, you can determine what content best attracts users to lead them to convert on your site.

Example: You have a Name Squeeze Page where you are offering a Free Report in exchange for your visitors Name and Email Address. Using website optimizer you would test two slightly different versions of that Name Squeeze Page to see which one converts best.

First you need to increase your Traffic, then you need to split test to increase your conversion rate.

If you put all your efforts into SEO and none of your efforts into Split Testing some of your SEO efforts will be wasted.

Again you will need to get your website designer to insert a code into your web pages in order to get website optimizer to work. The key to all successful marketing and online marketing is testing and measuring. It is essential to get the most from your marketing campaigns, and without the numbers how are you going to know what's working and what's not.

Google Maps- search Google for Google Maps

By getting your website listed for free in the Local Business Results it can really help you to get traffic to your site.

The Google Map Listings often appear above the rest of the free listings on the left of the Google Page.

You can add all your business details to Google Maps via your Google Account including opening times, photos, videos etc. To activate your Google Maps listing you will need to provide a telephone number or postal address and wait for a verification call or postcard.

Get Organized for Google SEO

Getting good SEO ranking hinges on several major areas of work. This article is written as concisely as possible to sum up those areas for success.

WEBSITE DESIGN - The design of your website affects the way search engine bots read your website. Search engine bots prioritize your code and content according to it's position on the page. If your keyword content is high on the page it receives more importance. So write as much of the content as possible near the top of the webpage code.

OPTIMIZING CONTENT - Optimizing content is essentially the use of wording and the format of the page. This can be broken into three areas: keyword density, formatting, and relevancy of the whole site.

Keyword density is the number of times a keyword is used on your page per one hundred words. A keyword density of 4% is usually optimal, so use keywords four times in each 100 words.

Formatting your content is important because titles, header tags and content that are capitalized, bold or italic with anchor text and other options increases the weight of the text or keyword. Don't bold every keyword every time it's used, 25% of the time is optimal.

WHOLE SITE RELEVANCY - whole site relevancy has major effect on your ranking. If your website is focused on carpeting it should do better in carpeting related searches than if it had many areas of content. And the relevancy of the entire site will affect the rankings of each page.

LINKS - Getting inbound links is very important. These links can be gotten from many different sources, and they should come from a diversity of sources for optimal ranking.

Submit your website to directories. This gives links and traffic to your website. These are often free of charge, but the more relevant they are to your content and the better their page rank the better the effect.

Write articles for ezines with your links in the article or at the end of the article. You will get relevant linkage plus relevant traffic. Leave comments with your links on various relevant blogs to get inbound links and relevant traffic.

Write your own blog with links to your content pages. Swap blogroll links with like-minded bloggers. Also use internal links on your website from one page to another to increase your websites weight.

SOCIAL MEDIA - using social media for SEO is a recent development. You get the links from the social networking sites themselves, which have value, plus access to many possible candidates for reciprocal linking. All of the relevant sites that are in your community or social network contribute to your relevancy.

If you take care of these ways to optimize for Google you will also be optimized for the other search engines. Now just submit your URL to Google and get your newly optimized website some rank and traffic.

SEO Games VS SEO Game Plan

We all like playing games, don't we? Playing games is great when you are young, but even as adults we continue to play games that adversely affect our lives, work and relationships. Like in life, in the SEO world too, we get many chances to stop playing games, and instead create a game plan for success.

In SEO mistakes can be costly, and yet I see people everyday taking such foolish chances that could drastically affect the future of their online business.

In SEO, time is money, and yet I see people everyday wasting time chasing a "high", a "quick fix" or a "quick payout", rather than working on developing a long term SEO strategy that creates value, builds a strong link, web and social reputation, creates a buzz, and attracts targeted traffic that can lead to conversions.

We know this, so why do we still continue playing unnecessary games?

Ignorance

The biggest reason we play games is ignorance. Would you hand over your company, product or service in the hands of a computer geek sitting in a far corner of the world? Then why are the same considerations not given to your online business.

SEO experts need an understanding of branding, marketing, content generation and technology, including understanding of search engines, best SEO practices and analyzing user behavior patterns from the past amongst other skills. Many clients have the wrong ideas and perceptions about SEO, and these wrong ideas eventually end up proving costly and a waste of time.

Expectations

We play games because we expect some 'payout' from playing the game. After all it's about winning, isn't it? Yes when you are in sports arena, winning is the goal, but wrong expectations from your SEO campaign can lead to frustration and eventual failure.

Impatience

We play games because we lack the patience to sow and reap at the right time. A farmer knows he has to sow before he can reap. Only with consistent effort can the fruits of labor be enjoyed. If you are looking for short cuts in SEO, then your online business could get cut short.

No Vision

We play games because we don't take the time to understand the bigger picture. We find comfort in the present, by chasing mindless goals of the future. If your online goals focus on "tripling traffic" without creating any value and a strategic roadmap to reaching there, it's time to talk to a SEO expert who can assist you in creating a realistic road map to online success. A good seo strategy makes common sense, and business sense, otherwise it's just nonsense.

The Games People Play

1. I know better!

The search engines have given us guidelines to follow. We have heard it straight from the horse's mouth, and yet everyday we see website owners, webmasters and even SEO professionals flouting the basic foundation principles of search engine optimization. Read the Google SEO Guidelines & Google Webmaster Guidelines.

2. Chasing traffic instead of "creating value"

This one is a classic. When you focus on chasing traffic instead of creating real value, whatever you create (even if the rankings and traffic show dramatic increase), like a beautiful dream will fade away when the morning comes. When you focus your energies on creating something of value, that value goes on growing with each passing day.

3. Buy instead of "Earn"

Easy right! You have a wallet full of greens, and money can buy anything. True in many instances it can, but when you choose to buy rather than "earn" as the focus of your SEO strategy, be prepared to see the results drop when the money stops. That is not to say that all paid links are bad, but rather that the focus of the SEO should always be towards earning links by creating value. Search engines can identify which links are paid and which have been earned. Natural links are "earned", and the search engines definitely prefer natural links over paid links.

4. Compete, instead of plan to Succeed

Competition brings out the best in people, the worst in people. True! I beg to differ. If your SEO strategy is focused on beating the competitors, a lot of time is focused around what your competitors are doing or not-doing. Is not success based on enhancing your brand, products, services and value offering? Don't get bogged down with search rankings of your competitors, rather focus on what you can do differently, and enhance the value you provide every single day.

How to stop playing Games?

You can stop playing games by creating a SEO game plan. A SEO game plan is founded on principles of creating value with intent of making it visible across relevant web, user and social communities for higher search rankings, traffic and conversions on your website.

The Right SEO Strategy Ahead covers weekly and monthly strategies you need to be implementing for long term success of your online business. So stop wasting time playing games, and start work on your SEO game plan.

Google Tips & Tricks - Why You Shouldn't Use Them For SEO

There are various unethical search engine optimization techniques that many website owners are using to try and trick Google in to giving them a first page ranking. However, I would personally advise you to steer well clear of any of these dodgy tactics as it could end up with your web pages being ignored by Google completely or even removed from their index.

If you search the internet you will find loads of information on different Google Tips and Tricks but don't be fooled into using these, Google is very clever and is getting more savvy by the day and is highly aware of all the loop holes that people try to use to get highly ranked.

The best, and only way, in my opinion to get first page Google rankings is not to try and fool Google but to do it steadily, logically and naturally. Do your research and make sure that the SEO techniques you are using are natural and above board. Here are some things to definitely avoid doing:-

Do not try and hide your keywords - Be upfront with them and do not try and hide them by making the background colour the same colour as the font.

Do not copy content from other pages on the internet or from other pages on your site. Make sure you content is original.

Do not add keywords that do not relate to your content, keep it all relevant.

In conclusion, follow the natural path to SEO, it may take a bit longer to get there but it will be worth it for those high Google rankings.

SEO - Why You Need to Keep Up With Search Engine Optimization

When it comes to optimizing your sites for the search engines, there are many viewpoints.

Some do not even want to tread into this area and it is understandable. Concerns about 'black hat' techniques and 'white hat' techniques abound. Who is doing the right thing? Who is cheating?

Some take the viewpoint that everything should happen naturally, and you should not try to do any type of optimization for the search engines. That would be ideal, I agree. But, the reality is that those who do take action with SEO are able to get at least some of the traffic they want, while those who try to let things happen naturally find that their sites are buried in oblivion, never to be seen.

Unfortunately once one group starts optimizing, there is no choice but to keep up. It is like any other area of competition in life. If you don't keep with the times, you are most likely going to be left far behind. In this case, the penalty is not having traffic come to your site - which defeats the purpose of your having a website in the first place.

Without traffic, it is difficult to obtain your goal. It makes no difference whether your goal is to inform people about something important, become an information source or even if you are trying to make money online -without traffic, everything you have done is diminished because no one will see it.

I think it is clear that despite the idealism in many of us, failure to optimize our sites for the search engines means that our messages, good or bad, will be lost. That is not what anyone makes a website for. If you have made a website then you most certainly want it to be seen with rare exceptions.

Achieve High Google Rankings Using These Five Tips

Does the Internet giant know you? Well, am talking about Google. Getting listed on Google for organic search results will drive a lot of traffic to your dating site. Because organic listings can not be bought, your dating site can only show on it through appropriate Search Engine Optimization. If a dating site or social network site is not optimized for search engines, then the only salvation is using pay per click advertising, which can be costly for a budding dating business. Given that Google controls over 50% of the search market, it is paramount that you optimize your site for Google.

A properly optimized site will achieve a higher ranking in Google, consequently bringing new visitors and potential subscribers to a dating site. Let's look at five ways of achieving high ranking in Google.

Building the right keyword list: If you own a dating site, then you should use the right keywords/key phrases that can bring conversion. Let's consider a dating site targeting a niche dating market like HIV positive singles. In such a case, the keywords you decide to optimize should target HIV positive singles. For instance, you can target the keyword "positive dating".

Unique Title and Meta description for individual web pages: Since every page on a site should have unique content, it does only good that each page title and Meta tags are relevant to the page content. Google takes this into consideration when indexing websites.

Relevant web content: Google hates spam and irrelevant content more that any thing else. Make sure that your dating site has relevant content that provides value to your visitors and subscribers. If your web content looks "spammy", Google will ban your site.

Keyword placement in web content: This is probably one of the most important SEO copywriting techniques. Stuffing the right amount of keywords in your web content will increase the visibility of the keywords. However, you should avoid excessive use of keywords-Google will think that you are spamming.

Building many back links: The main aim of building links is to increase the link popularity of your dating site. There are many ways of building links which can increase your page rank. However, the most common form of link building is using article marketing. Submitting original dating articles to high PR article directory sites like Ezinearticles will bring quality one way links to your site.

Other link building strategies include press release submission, link exchange, dating directory submission and social book marking. In SEO, patience is very important. The above strategies will not yield immediate results, but through persistence, your dating site will achieve high Google rankings.

Using SEO To Improve Your Google Ranking

Do you advertise on the internet? This is a trick question because if you have a website or webpage then you are already advertising. Ineffective while it may be this article is going to help you alter all that by teaching you on the subject of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

What is SEO? Well it is a way to boost your position in search engines like Google. By way of a higher rank, your site will be higher in the search engine listings. You would like your page to be the highest it can in the search engine listings. How you do that is through SEO. With high ranks you top the listings. Subsequently, you gain more traffic and more profits with your higher ranking.

What and how can you do to amplify your search engine rank? The search engines utilize an ever-complex process to determine a web pages rank. a number of the factors that they use are keyword density, META tags, titles, inbound links, website traffic, and content.

META tags are the first thing we will examine. Search engines utilize this html code to assist to ascertain keywords or phrases intended for the web page. Care should be taken when using these tags to avoid over using or using words that do not apply to your site. This may cause poorer rankings for your site. Using only phrases or keywords that are appropriate to your site is the best possible procedure.

Subsequently, let us talk about titles. Titles are used two ways; by the search engine to make sure title is relevant to the site and in the title of your listing. So using a title and keywords that match your site increases traffic to your site and your position. For instance if your site is on dog tricks and your tile has "Check out my ferret doing cool tricks". Is that title appropriate to that persons search? nonetheless, if your title is something akin to "Check out my dog doing cool tricks" much more people will check out your site.

Inbound links are next in line. They can affect your ranking early on in your sites growth. Inbound links are exactly what it sounds like. An inbound link is any link that is from an outside website to your own website. Regrettably, a number of them are less helpful then others. Links from high-ranking sites have the most impact on your own sites rank. For instance, your site has a rank of one out of ten. If you gain a link from a rank one site, your rank will not be affected very much, while a link from a rank five site is a great deal more valuable to your own ranking. In addition, there are a number of search engines that keep an eye on the amount of links gained. The best possible approach of getting links is a constant rate. If you get hold of 200,000 links in a week when while the past you where just getting very few that is a red flag to the search engines and my cause the site to be de-listed. This information is not confirmed but there are webmasters that declare that it has happened to them.

Keyword density and Content are last on our list. These two go together a great deal. Content is what is on your website akin to articles etc. unique content is the most advantageous for every site and it ought to be helpful to your target audience. While you add, more content to your site the more people will come back in as repeat visitors. By making, your content exclusive and helpful you end up getting links to your site from your visitors, which in turn increases your ranking and reputation. What is keyword density; it is the number of times certain words or phrases show up in a page or article. The words that occur the most are possibly the keywords or phrases of that information. There have been changes to how this works. It is not as simple as repeating a word or phrase in an article. Relevant and similar words/phrases are also used to establish the keywords, but that is a whole article in its self.

You should have a firm grasp of how SEO works, you can begin your path to the first page of Google and other search engines.

3 Simple On Page and Off Page tips for getting on Google

Building and SEO foundation: 3 Simple On Page and Off Page tips for getting on Google

By Greg Bowen

Establishing a footprint on Google and the other major search engines is a time consuming process and can take years to start getting good results. Organic rankings are crowded with businesses from every sector vying for coveted top spots. If you break the process up, and start doing a little ever day, you will start to see progress. Many of my clients simply do not even want to try and most do not know how to get started. This paper will walk you through the basic steps you need to build a foundation on which your SEO efforts can grow. The sooner you get moving on this, the better and developing a sound SEO foundation now will translate into great benefits for the future. None of this is meant as an exhaustive discussion of how to rise up on the Internet search engines. There are companies that do this exclusively, and techniques that are much more involved. The point here is to build a sound foundation that is manageable for busy small business owners and developers.

There are two factors that go into search engine optimization, on page and off page. On page factors deal with how your coded is structured, keyword choices and placement, while off page is all about building your network and techniques to drive in bound links, the gold standard for Google and the others. We will first look at on page optimization and then look at techniques that address building an off page network.

The first thing to do is find the keyword phrases that will preform for your business. The best place to start here is to write down a list of keyword phrases you would search if you were looking for a business like yours. Suppose you sell ceramic tile, you might search ceramic tile, ceramic tile repair, kitchen tile, ceramic kitchen tile, etc. Navigate to Google's keyword tool. Plug your keyword phrases in here, and sort by average search volume. You will see general terms like 'ceramic tile' get thousands of hits per month, in this case 550,000. The trick here is to choose your fights wisely. Choose phrases that you can realistically go for, and ones that match your business or specialty. For example 'outdoor ceramic tile' only gets 1900. If outdoor ceramic tile represents a significant part of your business, this would be a great search phrase to go after. You should do this for all the pages hat you plan to optimize for, and you can go for different phrases for each page.

There are specific places that these keyword should be placed in your HTML documents, You should write unique short descriptive titles for each of your pages that include your keyword phrases, place them in one H1 tag, one H2 tag and they should appear once or twice in your body content. Search engines look at more than just these keywords, and it is a good idea to have a good amount of well formatted content.

Your pages should be written with clean simple code. You should validate your HTML and CSS pages wth the W3 validators. You also need to submit your site to these sites: Yahoo Directory, DMOZ, Zoominfo and AbouUs.

External factors are all about you developing a network and driving inbound traffic and links. The more pages link to your site the better your Google rank will be, the better quality the in bound links, the better. Quality refers to the popularity of the site linking to yours, so check their Google ranking, The Google toolbar is a good tool to easily check page rank. Here are some steps you can take to start driving inbound links.

Keep a blog. The blog is the most important tool for generating in bound traffic. If you have the cycles to start becoming a voice in your industry, and people start coming to your site for information, tips or resources, you already have inbound traffic. Google reward dynamic content, and if your site suddenly has volumes of quality content, they will take notice. As far as what to blog about, that is probably best for other resources, but suffice to say that web 2.0 is all about giving. You need to give people a reason to come to your site, and nobody is really concerned about how your attendance at a trade show was a great success. When you have enough blog posts to be proud of, give the link to all your contacts, print it on your business card, promote it on your website. If you own a business, you probably have enough experience to be valuable to people in the marketplace. Make sure to submit your blog to Technorati.

Participate in other people's blogs. Many blogs allow you to place a link back to your site, and many blogs are high traffic sites which translates into a quality link. Participate on forums, this too is a place to put your link. If you are helpful, become a trusted member, you will see some direct traffic and people looking for your services will already know and trust you if you help them with an issue. I shoot for 5 inbound links per day.

Contact sites directly and ask if they would be interested in putting a link to your site on their website in exchange for the same favor. This is not difficult to do, and it allows you to control the referring sites and make sure that you are getting a link that has value.

There are many other tools and tricks for getting your site on to Google, but if you do these simple things, you will have built a solid foundation on which you can grow. The trick is to participate, and to do so consistently, allowing time to work in your favor. There are many more tips that can be found on my marketing blog here http://focusid.com.

Does Google Hate SEO's?

Seems like a constant backfiring is going on between Google and SEO's, with both ends unhappy with each other. Where Google has streamlined its "rules", the SEO marketers are just not willing to swallow them in. The matter remains intense and raises an important question, does Google hates SEO's? As far as my opinion is concerned, I would like to go with a well-thought "NO", Google does not hate SEO's, but it surely does hate over smart SEO's on the block! There is no use of going over and over the debate by cursing Google or Matt Cutts like the others do, as for me, I'd like to rely more on my common sense. And using that common sense, here are a few things that pop into my mind:

* Google likes competition, and it keeps testing the SEO's by constantly tweaking the search algorithms and causing more and more difficulties for them. We don't know how in such a short time SEO got sentenced and penalized with the terms like keyword stuffing, hidden text-in short, "black hat SEO practices"...maybe this is just another way to test the extent to which the SEO's will thrive for getting websites appear in the top search rankings. So for all the Internet marketers out there-don't panic and keep your fists tight, you have got some pretty hard challenges coming your way.

* Another thing that's quite obvious is that every firm, company, and organization has a set of rules and principles that it follows and does not let anyone operate outside that defined policy. In a similar manner, Google has its rules-you don't follow and you're out of the game! Anyone who exploits or misuses the SEO platform by deceiving and manipulating the search engines gets his piece of fine by being considered as spam or being banned for life.

* Google hates deception, true! But SEO's love deceiving-that's for sure! So unless and until one of these doesn't bend, things aren't going to settle down. Now here, I must side with Google and admit it's the SEO's doing wrong. Google in fact, has gone above board in not only supporting but practically devising tools for a smooth SEO process including guidelines, webmaster tools, API access and blogs etc. If Google hated SEO's, would it be foolish enough to go to such an extent and help them out? Don't know about you, but I don't think so!

* Commonly we have always witnessed one side of the story. We have always seen internet marketers killing themselves to get their identity flash on Google pages. Yes we all know SEO's need Google as the hype prevalent among the SEO community is "get higher search engine ranking". This phrase has made Google the king, while SEO's the poor public running after the king and obeying every order that trickles down from it. What we fail to see is the other side of grass which is much greener than the one we typically see. Google is a search engine and it can't operate itself unless some efforts are made to optimize it. In order to serve people and operate well, it has to be used, and the only way it can be used is through Search Engine Optimization.

* The most logical and realistic explanation validating my answer of how Google "not" hates SEO's comes now. Can you hate someone earning money for you? Ok, most of you can even answer a "yes" to this one so here's another; would you stop someone from earning money for you and create trouble for them while they work? Obviously no! So how can you expect Google to demolish the SEO practices when SEO actually makes a bulk of money for it? These bucks are made through organic campaigns and paid search campaigns (PPC) that make use of programs like AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, adCenter and much more. In conclusion I would say: a cold war is in progress between the two entities. This is the war between two rivals whose goals are the same (giving users a good search experience) but the approach is totally different. There is a need for them to acknowledge issues simultaneously and lay down principles that both can happily follow without blaming the other, because whether Google or SEO's admit it or not, they both are interdependent on one another.

SEO - Manipulating Keywords to Dominate Google

If you are not here to literally Dominate Google, Yahoo, MSN, Youtube, Ezines, PPC, or any other traffic source that requires the correct knowledge of keyword manipulation, I would strongly suggest you read another article. The fact of the matter is that I am about to give, people who are interested, the absolute key to SEO and understanding keywords.

What is search engine optimization or SEO

SEO, to me, is the ability to dominate the biggest search engines in the world allowing you to be seen by the exact people you want to be seen by at any given time of day. To "Wikipidia" SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines, naturally.

Either way, SEO is probably going to be the Most important skill you learn in this industry besides taking risks and working hard.

The key to going from 0$ a month to 15,20, or even 30$ per month lies solely on your ability to understand key words.

The benefits of understanding SEO & keywords are:

1. Targeted Traffic that is looking to buy what ever it is you have to offer

2. Getting to the top of the most Heavily trafficed Searches

3. Becoming a Celebrity on Social Media

4. Developing the lifestyle you have always dreamed of.

The problems people will have when it comes to SEO are actually putting the correct keywords combinations together to have the most profitable package. Most people think that SEO is created by having related key words. Related keywords would be something like "Weight Loss & Dieting."

With this example you can argue that they mean the same thing, but to the google Search bots they are different and if you use both of these key words in your tags your information will get lost in the Google Matrix.

What to Worm your Way to the top of page 1 on the Goggle Search Engines?

Here's the key, If you want to focus on weight loss, only use the words or phrase that include the word weight loss. If you want to talk about Dieting, only talk about dieting.

Why is this?

Your search results are processed by computers. They don't look at the information & say, "hmm this is what this website is most related to what this person needs, so let me go head and send them over to this page." Your search engines says, "Ok. (Your Name) is looking for Weight loss, let me find Any and Everything that has the words "weight loss" in it and I am going to let her chose.

Now when you think of it that way, it becomes a little different. So my biggest tip that I can give you in this little space when it comes to SEO is to chose exact keyword match phrases.

Interesting fact, before I go, even words like SEO mean Search Engine Optimization, but did you know that Google counts them as two separate words? Meaning that When I type SEO in to the search engines I will get one set of results, but when I type in Search Engine Optimization in to the same serach engine, I will get a totally different set of results.

Lets be smart and make good decisions, and most importantly lets make money.

DIY SEO Tips To Get High Google Rankings

SEO is quite a new industry. But although it hasn't been around for too long, it's one of the fastest developing niches online. The reasons for this are obvious. No matter how you look at it Google, Yahoo!, Bing and a handful of other search engines are the major source of online traffic. And it looks like the situation won't radically change soon. This ties your website's rankings on these search engines directly to your bottomline. Love it or hate it SEO is here to stay and you can't succeed without it.

Now let's look at the ways you can improve your search engine rankings, increase website traffic and ensure long-term growth of your business based on effective SEO strategy. Here're some DIY SEO tips that will help you get your website to the top of Google.

1. Keyword research or Picking The Right Keywords

It's not just about ranking high on Google that's important, but ranking high for the right keywords. Sure, you can get a top placement for any weird term you like, but unless people really search for it, there's no use ranking high for that keyword. So it's obvious that you need to pick the keywords that feature high search stats.

Although the traffic behind the keyword is important it's not the only factor that matters. The cornerstone of effective keyword research is the right focus. You need to target the search terms and phrases that are closely related to your business, your products and your customers' needs. If you get to rank high for broad terms you'll get more clicks, but on the other hand ranking for long tail will bring you more conversions and will ultimately provide a higher ROI.

SEO Tools You Can Use:

There are quite a number of keyword research tools (both free and paid) that will help you develop your keyword list, estimate the potential traffic and set the priorities. Some of the best are Google Adwords External Keyword tool, Google Search Based Keyword Tool, Wordtracker, Keyword Discovery, Word Stream and Rank Tracker.

2. Optimize Your Content

Content optimization is not as powerful as it used to be, but it's still an important part of effective SEO. The single most important element on your webpage is the title. Optimizing the title is a very tricky task. On the one hand you need to put your targeted keywords so that they stand as close to the beginning as possible, and make up the biggest part of the word count. On the other hand you need to make your titles sound natural and appealing to the users so that they will click through to your page when it comes up in the search results. Come up with a catchy and well optimized title and you'll improve both your rankings and click-through rates.

SEO Tools You can Use:

There are not too many tools for content optimization out there, I for one recommend WebSite Auditor.

3. Build Links

Link building is the heart and blood of your SEO. The link building theory is simple: get quality and relevant links to your website with keyword-rich anchor texts. The practical part is much more complicated: you need to be constantly on the look for quality websites in your niche that you can get a link from. Here are some of the most popular and effective link building techniques:

- Link exchange (reciprocal linking) - 3 way linking (when you have more than 1 website) - Directory submission - Article submissions - Social media marketing - Link baiting - Blog commenting - Forum Posting - Competition Research

SEO Tools You Can Use:

Link building is perhaps the most consuming SEO tasks and you'll certainly need SEO software to speed up the process and boot your productivity. The best link building and link analysis tools you can use are SEO SpyGlass, Backlinkwatch, Webconfs SEO tools and LinkAssistant.

These are some of the proven SEO techniques that alone can improve your search engine rankings, increase your website traffic and get you to the top 10, 5 and finally 1 on Google for your most important keywords and search strings.

Seo Software and the Google Dance

Using SEO Software which automates your ability to gain backlinks to your website from many varied websites around the internet helps to improve your websites rankings, this is obvious to all those who use it.
Though in addition to the speed of creating backlinks to your website, this automation gives the user of seo software the unique position of being able to understand how the google search engine ranks websites.

Having developed a lot of automated seo software tools over the years it is becoming more and more apparent how google lists new or existing websites after they gain backlinks.

Once a website gains say 50 new back links in a shorter period of time, for example in 1 week. The google algorithm notices this rapid increase in new back links appearing. Google will then assign this website a very high initial listing in its index. At this time the google algorithm will then wait for 2 to 5 days for it to analyse if more quality links are going to point at this website.

Typically, this initial burst up the rankings in the search engine will last up to 1 week, then drop in the listing, in accordance to the authority of the domains providing links to the website gaining backlinks.

What is becoming more and more evident, that this initial high listing is an indicator of where this website being promoted will end up in the rankings if this website is continually promoted via the gaining of more back links from authority websites.

This is what's called the Google Dance. The google Dance reveals the the first week after linking to a website where it will eventually arrive in the google index.

The term the website is ranking for is the term used as anchor text in the links pointing to the website being promoted.

Understanding the Google Dance allows you to be able to test your website in advance and having an understanding where your site will rank after a period of time. For example, if you use your SEO software to gain back links to your website, then daily observe this websites ranking in google. Close observation will show its initial high listing for the term you are after. Even though this ranking will most likely drop a few pages back after the first week after your backlink promotion, this does in fact reveal where your site will be listed after google has stopped dancing. This is if you continue with your SEO Software after your website has lost its initial high ranking.

Once you have used your seo software to promote your website by gaining back links. If your website does not gain a high ranking in the first week, this is a clear indicator that the sites you are gaining links from do not have enough authority to help get your website ranked high for this term. Meaning that your promotional methods are not sufficient enough in this market. By understanding this at this point in time can save you a lot of time.

Understanding this Google Dance means you can test different niches in google without wasting time on a term that you will never get listed in. It also shows you that you can achieve great listings when seeing the initial high ranking, which then encourages you to continue on with your SEO Software to continue to create more backlinks to establish and hold onto your high listings.

Dental - Orthodontic Marketing - How to Test Your Website's SEO on Google - Can Patients Find You?

Can you afford to turn away new patients in today's economy?

Using correct HTML keyword code in your orthodontic marketing website is key to driving prospective new patients to your website on Google, the only search engine that matters.

Keywords relate to the words and phrases patients type into the search engines to find you. No matter how great your website... if new patients can't find you on Google and Google Maps in your surrounding demographic...its worthless. It's like having a Porsche with a Yugo engine... Your website won't even be in contention for page one positioning on the search engines unless SEO measures are implemented to increase your website visibility.
90% or more of orthodontic and dental websites are key worded incorrectly. In the past month alone, not one of the website I analyzed were keyword optimized correctly and two weren't even found on Google Maps in there own town... With minor modifications both practices were on Google Maps in less than 2 hours and the other practices improved their ranking on Google, in their demographic, almost immediately.

How does your website stack up? Here is a quick test you can run on your website to see if you are easily found on Google...

1. Go to Google and in the search box type in patient keywords - orthodontist [your city name and state]. Orthodontist is one of the major keywords patients use to search on Google.

2. Does your website show up on page one of Google? Pay Per Click Ads and database advertisers like wellness.com don't count... only organic links on the left that click into a page on your website.
3. Does your practice name and website show up correctly on Google Maps?

4. Now do the same thing again... but this time, one by one substitute the names of all surrounding towns you want to target new patients in your demographic. Does both your website and Google Maps show up on page one in these areas?

If not, I suggest you contact me for a Free consultation to discuss how we can improve your page ranking and increase your Internet marketing presence on Google. If you do test well throughout your demographic, test your site with other keywords patients are using to find an orthodontist in your area. Here's a tip... never use your practice name. It's not a patient keyword.

Simply changing a few keywords now...could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to your practice... in the future. If you are only reaching 50% of your demographic... this not only translate into a loss of potential revenue over the years.... it also reduces your click through rate on Google which affects page ranking. Isn't that worth looking into?

SEO and Getting to Number One on Google

There are hundreds of different SEO techniques being used on the internet all with one single aim, to be number one on Google for a given keyword or phrase. It is true that 47% of Google traffic click on the number one position, but this does not automatically make it the most profitable position to be in. If your site lacks in certain ways that traffic will simply click the back button and find another site that is better tailored to the search query.

There are a number of things to think about besides getting a top position on Google. If were selling a product we first need to make sure our keyword research is relevant and focused. We need to make sure the site is attractive and encourages interaction, all these elements go into making Google traffic profitable.

A big part of ensuring you maximise click through rates is by building your brand. One of the best ways to do this is by becoming involved in social networking groups and participating in industry specific events. Familiarity with a given brand can be the difference between a click and miss.

Even though Meta descriptions no longer hold any weight with the search engines it is still a good idea to pay a little attention to them. If you were running an adwords campaign you would want your ad copy to be compelling and catchy. You should view your meta description the same way ensuring you make maximum benefit of keywords, attracting the attention of the searcher.

Business listings are another great way to drive the maximum amount of traffic to your site. A business listing builds brand and trust, if a searcher finds your site within Google's business listing they are more likely to visit and trust the information on the site. Google also uses business listings within general search, if they feel it is relevant to the searcher. Not completing a listing is a missed opportunity of driving highly targeted traffic to your site.

Getting a high Google listing is only half of the puzzle, your site needs to look professional otherwise those visitors will do nothing for you. Your keywords need to be focused and precise, be sure to test different keywords on new pages and use Google optimizer to discover which landing pages result in the best conversion rates. By implementing the above you are maximising the amount of qualified traffic that hits your site.

White Hat SEO Approach to Improve Google Ratings

Search Engine Optimization has become very essential in last few years and everyone started using the similar techniques that interned the search engines to change their strategies. Same the case is with Google ratings. As the competition increased the optimizers started using black hat SEO techniques to get top results. However, by means of this way of marketing and endorsement business can't be generated for a long period. Google keep on changing their algorithms frequently so that it's very necessary to follow the SEO principles. The most important ingredient of a website is the content. Strongly related and non duplicated content is the primary element of a high-quality website. A weak website which is not useful for the net surfers by any means may not be able to get higher rankings in search engines.

Can a website having resemblance take away all the traffic with most popular and legitimate websites? Whether that website is having natural content or not search engine optimization techniques may work a lot for this kind of websites. By creating strong back links through unfair means and promoting these site through social bookmark websites. However, the search engines keep on modifying their strategies day by day to avoid this chaos created by cheap website hosting providers. They use to paralyze the spamming and duplicate websites and those are who involve in selling and purchasing text links for PR exchange.

All these methods are against the search engine rules and regulations. These ways of marketing are not long-standing. Once the site blacklisted, it takes a long time to get the previous position and some times it becomes impossible because it is very difficult to know about the penalties on a particular site. On the other hand if white hat SEO is bring into play, though it takes more time to get higher Google rankings but it's everlasting and genuine.

Once your website gets good rating you use Google ads, advertisement banners and many other methods to make money in a legal way. Whether your site is presenting cheap web hosting, free web hosting or some sort of software reviews; you'll be getting definitely good response.

If Google Sculpting Is Dead Then SEO Must Be On Life Support

I have always thought of SEO as optimizing your content, both on-site and off-site, so that it ranks at the top of the search engines. Promoting your content or site should never be a crime in the eyes of Google or any search engine for that matter.

Years ago, before I even knew what SEO was, I wrote an article and submitted it to the major online article directories. Next morning my article and links were on a thousand sites across the web, that may be a bit of an exaggeration but you get the picture. How can Google or anyone fault webmasters for voting on the quality of your content by placing it on their sites?

Same thing happens when your visitors bookmark, tweet or digg your content and you end up on the homepage of Digg with hundreds of sites linking to your content. How can Google fault you for that happening?

Democracy happens. SEO happens.

But not without a lot of promotion and marketing to get the wheels rolling. If you want to sit around and wait for things to happen, buy a big soft cushion and some extra patience at the check-out counter because you're going to need it.

Any business has the right to advertise, to aggressively market their products. How can Google fault any company for doing such a thing? Now outright buying of thousands of links to get your site to the top should be wrong but presenting quality link bait in the form of articles, videos, ebooks, press releases, quality information... and letting webmasters decide what content and sites they want to link to should be at the heart of all this foolishness.

SEO is knowing how to fine-tune your link bait and your site to reach the top spot in organic search.

But is Google cracking down on webmasters who actively pursue this kind of link building? On webmasters who try to get those embedded anchor text links on important relevant sites? Are they trying to give SEO a bad name? Like that's even possible!

Over the years, my sites have held some very profitable keywords on the first page results in organic search, mostly in Google. That's mainly because I optimize my content and web pages to rank well in Google. I have been quietly Google Sculpting for years, controlling what links I want on their first page results.

Actually, ranking well in Google is not rocket science and any idiot can do it; all it takes is good quality content and plenty of good quality backlinks to that content. Anchor text (underlined clickable part of an URL) is extremely important for ranking high in Google but you have to be careful to vary your keywords because many SEO experts believe Google has a keyword quota - use the same keyword too often and your content will be penalized for keyword and/or URL spamming. Makes sense.

Actually, I have been studying and analyzing Google since it was merely an itch on someone's back. And it seems like I have been constantly rubbing that ever changing Algorithm ever since. Generally, it has paid off handsomely for me and I have been a full-time professional search engine marketer for 3 or 4 years now.

I am rarely stumped by Google but it does happen occasionally. And recently my SEO alter ego took a massive beating, some kind of filter has taken one of my main keyword phrases off the first page of Google and landed it in the 60th place. Ouch!

What is even compounding the problem, this keyword phrase sometimes bounces back onto the first page and then back off again. This is not like Google, they are never erratic unless it's one of their dances or a major update when all hell usually breaks loose. For the most part, my keywords in Google have been fairly stable, if they drop, they drop slowly and because I have stopped promoting them. Years of monitoring your keywords tells you something very different is happening here in this case.

It is totally frustrating when Google won't do what you want them to do! Usually they are so easy to lead and they take directions so well. However, this recent erratic keyword bouncing in Google has me so perplexed I am stumbling to find possible reasons. I am jumping to conclusions way too quickly.

In my case, Google was listing both my main index homepage and my optimized page for the same keyword phrase. This appears to be diluting the ranking of both pages. The optimized page was at around 50 and my homepage came in at the 95 spot. However, this seems to be more my mistake than Google's, since I inadvertently placed the same keyword phrase in links on my homepage going to other interior pages and not necessarily to my main optimized page which I wanted and which is usually ranked in Google for this keyword phrase.

Let me explain further, I develop sections/guides on my site that are keyworded to different markets generally relating to the theme of my site or domain. For the keyword phrase in question, I have a well established page that's linked from hundreds of related sites around the web - this is the page that should be ranked for this keyword phrase since it is the most relevant, not my homepage. Likewise, on my own site I have constructed my pages so that PR flows to this optimized page. For years, this optimized interior page held the number one spot in Google.

Could this possibly have something to with regards to PageRank Sculpting, which Matt Cutts spoke about in a recent blog post? If PR sculpting no longer works on my site, can this be causing the erratic bouncing of that particular keyword but if this is true - why aren't my other keywords turning into bungee cord wannabes?

Now there could be separate filters at play here and the above scenario has nothing to do with these bouncing keywords within Google. It seems to be connected with URL spamming in some form or manner, even when those links are legitimate links coming from quality sites. It seems Google's Algorithm has become so sophisticated and complex, it probably has developed a mind of its own and nobody can tell it what to do.

However, it is always rather foolish to draw conclusions regarding Google on just a few erratic keywords. But something definitely has changed in how Google is ranking those keywords - could it be that PageRank Sculpting or even Google Sculpting is killing the old tried and true SEO techniques. I am seeing a lot more Brand Rankings in the SERPs which Aaron Wall talked about a little while back; I am also seeing much more relevance on News listings, more relevance on Video listings... can Google be shaking up the whole ranking order?

Rumor has it that many top Google big-wigs are upset with the introduction of Microsoft's Bing into the search arena. That orders have gone out to shake up and improve Google's Algorithm... to further combat this pesty new competition.

But does Google have to worry about Bing? The answer is a possible yes - if you do a side by side comparison of Google and Bing here: http://www.blackdog.ie/google-bing/search-com.php

You will see Bing is not half bad - whether it can give Google a run for its search dollar money is still up in the air but it could definitely eat into Google's share of the search market. I am seeing Bing turning up in my own traffic stats with a lot more traffic than I get from MSN or Windows Live - now it's no where near the amount of traffic Google delivers but still it more than what was there before Bing launched.

All this shouldn't give Google any sleepless nights but Google can't afford to take too many catnaps if it wants to keep its dominance in online search.

Could all these background events be playing into Google's shakeup of how it lists popular lucrative keywords. I am not seeing the same kind of movement in my other less profitable keywords. Can Google be hand-picking certain lucrative keywords and applying different standards or filters to those keywords? Are there "human eyes" filtering Google's organic rankings? Extremely hard to believe with Google's well deserved reputation, but something is definitely not routine as usual in the Kingdom of Google?

It now seems to rank high for certain lucrative keywords in Google, you MUST have TWO highly ranked optimized pages instead of JUST one?

Is this a new and more powerful ranking factor which overrules most other factors? It's my most burning SEO question at the moment. What has caused that keyword to drop so far, so fast? And why does this keyword phrase seem to be in Everflux, with new listings jumping unto the first page every day. The rankings/listings are much, much more fluid than they used to be; if Google ranks all its keywords in this fluctuating manner, SEO may indeed be dead. At least whitehat SEO where the webmaster is doing everything according to the rules.

Again, this is micro-reasoning on my part since all this could be just some filters holding my keywords back or recent activity from competing sites have suddenly increased and my rankings have naturally dropped when compared to them. But I have held that keyword for years in Google, how dare other sites take my spot? For the other sites to gain so quickly and for mine to fall so fast and so far has me scratching my head. Something just doesn't smell right in the land of Google?

Could something more sinister be going on? Could someone be Google Sculpting my links in the opposite direction? Since it's so easy to sculpt or convince Google to list your page, can it be just as easy for someone to use underhand methods to get your page or site ranked lower? Spam your link on thousands of nasty sites or simply get you ranked for two pages for the same keyword, one of them that's poorly optimized such as your homepage so as to pull both of them down lower. This is too laughable and too paranoid to entertain, or is it?

Regardless, I have learned long ago, SEO has to be taken with a large grain of salt. Besides, this is just one of thousands of keywords I am monitoring. Win or lose, I am having the time of my life, even when Google goes erratic and won't do what I want them to do. After all, when everything is said and done; SEO means never having to say you're sorry!

How does Google see SEO's?

The current buzz for the last few years has been Search Engine Marketing. Everyone wants to know what it is and how to do it. Much in the same way that web design was the thing to learn in the late 90's. Now, almost all web design agencies offer this service, and have been offering this service to their customers. There are Internet Marketing experts all over the world, but is this something that Google sees as unnatural and unethical - as it is a blatant manipulation of Google search results? This depends on the application.

If you are a spammer and your sole goal is to add duplicate content, door way pages, and other black hat content, then this will be seen by Google as bad, because it does not benefit the user in any way and just adds to the growing list of thousands of pages that are irrelevant and have no value. But if you are adding relevant and original content on a regular basis, this can be quite useful, especially if you are writing for the user in mind, as it holds a certain value and will carry more chance of being picked and displayed in the search engine results pages.

Google only cares about presenting the users with the results that they are looking for, the more relevant the result, the better. Google has numerous algorithms in place whose sole job is to sort out relevant content and display it in the index of websites held in datacenters all over the world.

Also, if the content that has been created engages the user in some sort of way then this can also earn you extra brownies points as it makes your site sticky and get users visiting more often and for longer. Google wants websites to have some sort of function and not just sit there becoming stale and obsolete. If this rule can be followed, there is very little chance of Google ever having any problems with so called "SEO's" and they can continue to add quality to the growing number of websites that are online and being accessed as we speak.

SEO Tips - How to Achieve High Rankings on Google Through SEO

SEO or search engine optimization is the process of improving or increase the quality and quantity of traffic to your website via search engine organic result listings. This means that the higher your site ranks on the organic search results, the more traffic you will get from search engines.

Out of all search engines, Google has the biggest market share. This explains why many webmasters and business owners want their websites to rank high on Google. To achieve high rankings on Google is not impossible - you just need to know how to optimize your website. In this article, let me share with you some tips to achieve high rankings on Google through SEO.

1. Optimize your websites for short and long tail keywords. If you are offering cleaning services in Chicago, you may want to optimize keywords like "cleaning services Chicago" and "office cleaning Chicago". This will attract the right people to visit your website and increase your conversion rate. Google optimization is all about relevancy. So just make sure that the keywords you optimize is relevant to the content of your website.

2. Purchase a domain name early. The age of your domain name plays an important role when it comes to Google optimization. The longer the domain name has been around, the more Google is going to like you. So choose a domain name properly to ensure you don't change it after a year. If not, all the optimization effort will go down the drains.

3. Make sure that your website is search engine friendly. Don't use frames or flash to build your website. Go for simple HTML or PHP sites with cleaning coding. If your website has a lot of pages, make sure you include a sitemap.xml so that GoogleBot can index all pages on your website.

4. Place important keywords within your content and your Title tag. It is extremely important to place important keywords in Title tag. The Title tag is like the Title of a book. If you come across a book without a proper title, you will not understand what it is about. This is the same for search engines. If you want Google to index your site and rank it high for important keywords, you must first ensure that Google knows what your site is about. You can do it by writing proper titles for every page of your website.

5. Build links. It is important to get other sites to link back to your website if you want to achieve high rankings on Google. With more back links, Google will see your site as popular and reward you with high rankings. Some of ways to get back links are article submission, directory submission, social book marking, commenting on blogs and forum posting.

How To Follow Google's Guidelines When You SEO Your Site

It is important to learn about Google's guidelines when you SEO your site. Google may penalize you if you perform illicit keyword stuffing and other deceptive ways of drawing traffic to your website. If you are penalized by Google your site may be removed from their search index and no longer show up in the search results of the major search engines.

The best tip for following Googles guidelines when you SEO your website is to design your web pages primarily for users, not for crawling by search engines. Make sure that your web pages are written clearly and accurately describe the content of your website. Creating a website that is useful, designed well and is full of relevant information is the best advice when you SEO your website to increase your search ranking.

When designing your website, it is best to create accurate, unique page titles. The title tag lets users and search engines know what the topic of a web page is. You should place the title tag within the head tag of each page. You should have a title for each page on your website and each should be unique. A title for a homepage should include the name of your site and other relevant information such as the location or a summary of what is offered on your website.

If you are redesigning a website, look for hidden text and hidden links that may not follow Google's guidelines for SEO of your site. Keyword spamming is another thing to look for.
