Anyone who knows anything about Google SEO will also know that anchoring your back links has a profound effect on your rank within the Google search result pages. Its probably the most powerful principle of off page optimisation and many sites have ranked for competitive keywords purely based on anchored links.
The problem we are faced with as webmasters is getting those anchored links. Remember Google likes all links to be natural, awarded for quality content from other webmasters, but these links will take the form of our domain name 90% of the time hampering our SEO efforts.
What I want to do in this article is share a few ways of making sure you get the anchor text your want in order to rank higher and pull in more targeted traffic.
One of the most obvious things you can do is pick a business or domain name that includes the keyword you are trying to target, this will look natural and will increase your rankings for the given keyword at the same time. Sometimes it may not be appropriate to have the targeted keyword in your company name, if not try to implement it in your title tag or in your page title, anything that prompts a linker to use it to link to your site.
Another great way to get the optimised anchor you need is to use content distribution methods. Article marketing seems to be a method that has long been forgotten, however it is still amazingly effective, with articles you get to create a fully optimised page and anchor the link back to your site, what more could you possibly ask for?
Directories are also a great place to get the anchor texts you want, however only use directories that are relevant to your content, submitting to every directory regardless of relevancy will do little or nothing for your Google SEO efforts. Again with directories you are fully in control of the link text, use it to good effect and optimise it for your targeted keywords.
A very similar method of getting links is through social media networks. Most webmasters submit there own web pages to places like delicious and digg, if you are one of these then be smart about it. In the title of your submission include the key phrase, in fact even make it the key phrase. If your site goes viral you could see thousands of anchored links pointing to your site over night. Stick to these simple principles and you will see a massive increase in your keyword rankings.
